Septic Tank Baffles Replacement or Installation
There are two baffles in a septic tank, the first is Inlet baffle, usually a wall or concrete that extends 40% down into the liquid. It directs inflow downward and helps allow the scum layer to form. The second is an Outlet baffle, which is even more important. It is usually a solvent-welded tee and drop pipe. This baffle is designed to contain solids and scum in the septic tank and allow only wastewater fluids to pass into the leach field. Damaged or non existing baffles can create serious damage to the leach field by allowing solids or scum to pass through the septic tank into the leach field, resulting in leach field failure.
