What is a septic system?

 

  • All the components use to convey or treat effluent (wastewater), including all methods used to distribute effluent into the EDA (Effluent disposal area).  Septic systems are considered to be on-site systems designed to safely dispose of biodegradable sanitary waste gray water.

  • A gurgling sound
  • Over flow or sewage backup into the house
  • Strong odors of sewage outside

How long should a septic system last?

 

  • A conventional septic system should last approximately 30 years

 

How can I prolong the life of my septic system?

 

  • Pump the tank every 2-4 years
  • Conserve water usage
  • Don’t use a garbage disposal
  • Don’t use a lot of anti-bacterial products
  • Spread out laundry loads

 

Can I build over my leach field?

 

  • The use of motor vehicles, live stock, heavy equipment, or building on top of a leach field can compact soil and break sewer pipes.
